In 2012, Guinness World Records recognized Jesus Film Project with this certificate, noting that the film’s 817 translations up until that point made it the most translated film in the world. Today, the translation total stands in the thousands.

Driven to fulfill the Great Commission in THREE big ways
1. Heart language
A person’s “heart language” is the language they learned on their mother’s knee—the language they dream in and best understand.
Our flagship film, the JESUS film, is in 2,000+ heart languages. Many of our films are available in multiple heart languages. And every new film is designed to be translated for language groups still needing to hear about Jesus.
2. Reaching the least reached
Leaning on God, we’ve placed our sights on working with our partners to reach everyone, everywhere, but with a special focus on the areas of the world that have the least access to the gospel and healthy, thriving churches within walking distance.
3. Innovation
As the world changes, Jesus Film Project innovates, adapts and uses new technologies to reach it with the story of Jesus. These technologies are designed to break language and literacy barriers so that anyone can watch.

Our Story
In 1979, we launched the JESUS film to share a story of hope and reconciliation—the story of Jesus. Since then, we’ve watched God work in incredible ways.
JESUS premieres in 250 U.S. theaters.
1980
JESUS has first international showing in Hindi to 21 million Indian viewers.
First JESUS film teams launch in Philippines.
1985
Our ministry, Jesus Film Project, is officially founded by our first executive director, Paul Eshleman.
1989
JESUS premieres in Tbilisi, Georgia, marking the first time in 70 years that a Christian film opened in a theater in the Soviet Union. More than 2,500 people attend the premiere.
1999
JESUS reaches 500 translations and approximately 3 billion views. Jesus Film Project produces the children’s adaptation of the JESUS film: The Story of Jesus for Children.
2007
JESUS reaches 1,000 translations. The film Magdalena: Released From Shame premieres in 22 countries.
2012
Jesus Film Project app released.
2013
We ship our 10,000th projector.
2022
The JESUS film reaches its 2,000th translation—in the Zo language.
Since the early years of our ministry, we’ve kept our eyes on one goal—everyone seeing Jesus.
Today we continue to help believers engage the world with a message that speaks to the heart, using short films, digital tools and other ministry strategies.
