Bangladesh

The greatest gospel gap in the world is in 50 countries—these countries have barely any new, thriving churches. And nearly 75% of all the world’s unreached people (3.6 billion) live in 12 of those 50 countries. The people in these 12 countries have the least access to the gospel in their own language.

We can engage in strategic, focused prayer for the 12 countries of the world that are least reached with the gospel without ever leaving home.

Every month in 2024 we’ll feature one of these countries, familiarize you with its culture and share prayer requests addressing the country’s specific needs. We believe the light of Jesus can shine through!

All About Bangladesh

Bangladesh is abundant with water, from hundreds of rivers to the Bay of Bengal. It’s everywhere! This month, we are praying for this special country between India and Myanmar. Join us in asking the Holy Spirit to flow through the land like its many rivers, and to lead people in every corner of the country to Jesus.

The state of Iowa and the countries of Nepal, Greece and Tajikistan are all similar in size to Bangladesh. Yet the populations of these places are drastically different. Bangladesh has close to 170 million people, while Iowa only has about 3 million and Greece and Tajikistan each have about 10 million.

Bangladesh is often called the “Land of Rivers” because it has about 700 rivers flowing through it. Continuing our comparisons, Iowa only has four rivers, Greece has over 27, Tajikistan has 900, and Nepal has over 6,000.

The Royal Bengal Tiger is the national animal of Bangladesh. It is a symbol of strength and courage, and its roar can be heard up to two miles away!

Bengali is spoken by 98-99% of the population. There are around 40 other languages spoken in the country. The Jesus Film ProjectⓇ app has media in 36 of these languages.

Bangladesh is home to Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world. Covering a vast area with a unique ecosystem and abundant wildlife, Sundarbans is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of the Bengal Tigers live there.

Many Bangladeshis are hesitant to learn about Jesus, or even to watch a movie about Him. Ask God to remove the fear of learning about Jesus and open their hearts to hearing His message.

Pray that Christian websites would be safe places for people to learn about God and help to advance God’s kingdom. Pray for these websites to be safe from hackers and from those who want to stop the sharing of the gospel.

There are many local and foreign aid agencies working to provide services to refugees in Bangladesh. Pray that Christian service organizations can spread the message of God’s love and salvation to these displaced people.
