Iran

March 2022

The greatest gospel gap in the world is in 50 countries—they have barely any new, thriving churches. And nearly 75% of all the world’s unreached people (3.6 billion) live in 12 of those countries. These people have the least access to the gospel in their own language.

Engage in strategic, focused prayer for the 12 countries of the world that are least reached with the gospel without ever leaving home.

Every month in 2022 we’ll feature one of these countries, familiarize you with its culture, and share prayer requests addressing the country’s specific needs. We believe the light of Jesus can shine through!

All about Iran

Did you know that Iran—historically known as Persia—has its own solar calendar? The current year is 1400, and later this month Iranians will turn to the year 1401 on the Persian calendar. To mark the occasion, the people hold celebrations for two weeks, wishing for prosperity and welcoming the future. Let’s band together to welcome a move of God in this land and blessings for its people!

While most countries in the Middle East claim Arabic as their official language, Iran’s official language is Farsi.

Iran is the second largest country in the Middle East. It is almost three times the size of France or slightly smaller than Alaska.

Carpets are second only to oil as Iran’s largest export.

Polo (the sport) originated in Iran in the 6th century BC as a form of cavalry training.

Iranian dishes usually include rice or a variety of flatbread. Slow-cooked stews over rice are popular, but a variety of kebab dishes also form part of the Iranian diet. Many Iranians pair their meals with salad or fresh herbs.

Pray with us…

Due to disillusionment with the majority religion, some in Iran are turning to a former traditional religion. Lord Jesus, shine Your light in the hearts of those who are in the dark, so that they will come to know You—the way, the truth and the life.

Film and video clips about the story of Jesus posted to websites and on social media often provide Iranians an encounter with the gospel they may not otherwise have. Please pray many in Iran would be moved by the life-changing message of the clips they watch. Pray that online follow-up and discipleship will be fruitful, helping Iranians take their next steps towards knowing the biblical Jesus.

COVID-19 is still having a significant impact on this nation. Pray for the timely supply of vaccines, protection over the medical staff and for people’s hearts to be especially open to hearing the good news during the pandemic.

You can continue in fervent daily prayer with us.  Visit our prayer experience page to access more requests about Iran.
