In 1985, Dr. Bill Bright established Jesus Film Project as a ministry under Cru. Our initial purpose was to make the most of the incredible outreach opportunities that accompanied the 1979 film adaptation of the New Testament Gospels, JESUS. At the time Dr. Bright founded the ministry, the JESUS film had already been translated into 100 languages—but we saw the potential for much more.

Today, with the help of many ministry partners, Jesus Film Project has translated the JESUS film into more than 2,000 languages, and the film has been shown to billions of people all over the globe. By God’s grace, through this monumental translation work, some people groups without a written language of their own have experienced Jesus’ story in their own heart languages. And to date, more than 600 million people have decided to follow Jesus after watching this film.

Over time, the focus of Jesus Film Project has grown beyond a single film to include a library of media tools, strategies and resources to equip believers and help fulfill the Great Commission

We’re more than the JESUS film

We believe that film is a powerful way to break communication barriers and help people grasp new ideas and concepts. That’s why Jesus Film Project has added feature-length movies, short films and series to its growing collection of free resources, most of which are available in multiple languages.

Alongside the original JESUS film, this collection includes the Gospel of John and the Book of Acts. You’ll also find beautifully animated series like Retelling the Good Story, Do You Ever Wonder . . .? and a library of more than 60 thoughtful short films from all around the world. In total, we have more than 700 inspiring and informative videos.

These videos are free to watch and share. You can watch them at JesusFilm.org/watch, our YouTube channel, or the free Jesus Film Project mobile app

Tools and resources for sharing the gospel

Along with the Jesus Film Project App, we’re working hard with our partners to provide equipment, tools, resources and strategies for reaching everyone, everywhere, with the story of Jesus.

When our ministry began, missionaries worked diligently to carry equipment around the world so they could set up screenings of the JESUS film in a location without the resources to do so.

Over the years, we’ve continued to build on this legacy of powerful equipment and innovation. One of our equipment sets used to show the film today fits in a backpack that weighs just seventeen pounds and can be solar-powered.

The NewLifeBox™ kit is another example of equipment helping to revolutionize the mission field. This technology fits in your pocket, and anytime you use it in a public place like an airport or cafe, people searching for a wi-fi signal will discover a message from you on their device. . This message might say something like, “Download a free film about Jesus.” People can then download and watch the film privately—even in the most gospel-resistant areas.
